Karamu House Awarded the
2013 Repertory Company of the Year Award

In February, 2014, Karamu House was awarded the 2013 Repertory Company of the Year Award at the 41st Annual Vivian Robinson/AUDELCO Recognition Awards for Excellence in Black Theatre held in New York City. Mayor Frank G. Jackson presented Terrence Spivey and other representatives from Karamu House with a proclamation for achieving this distinguished honor.

Karamu House, located in Cleveland's Fairfax neighborhood, is the oldest African American theater in the United States. Founded in 1915, it has been a launching pad for such diverse actors and playwrights such as, Langston Hughes, Ruby Dee, Robert Guillaume, and several others. In addition to its theater, Karamu runs a day care facility and cultural arts classes for all age groups.
