A Musical Documentary & Broadcast of the 2019 Production

Do you know about Shuffle Along? Join us for this FREE concert and program, "The Impact of Shuffle Along," available throughout all of Black History Month. This special program, co-hosted with The Musical Theatre Project, presents nearly 20 songs from the original 1921 musical, and also tells the story and history of this musical, the first of its kind to be written and performed entirely by Black Americans.

A musical concert version of the 1920's musical Shuffle Along that marked the emergence of Black musical theatre. It was one of the most significant musicals of the 20th century: a show written and performed entirely by African Americans; a show with exuberant songs by Eubie Blake and Noble Sissle (including the mega-hit " I'm Just Wild About Harry"); the production that brought the Harlem Renaissance to the stage, and the first musical that paved the way for integration in theatres in New York City, and across the country.

The month-long presentation of "The Impact of Shuffle Along" is presented in partnership with the PNC Fairfax Connection.
